How Smartphones Hijack Our Minds

This reminds me of an old book we read in college Psych class about how television was destroying our minds.

That may or may not have been true, but these studies, including one from one of my local universities (UCSD), may be on to something.

“Research suggests that as the brain grows dependent on phone technology, the intellect weakens.

“[I]n the history of captivating media, the smartphone stands out. It is an attention magnet unlike any our minds have had to grapple with before. … it acts as what Dr. Ward calls a “supernormal stimulus,” one that can “hijack” attention whenever it is part of our surroundings—which it always is.”
